Mick Whitley MP
Mick Whitley, MP for Birkenhead
Mick was born and bred in Birkenhead and for many years worked at the Vauxhall Car Factory in Ellesmere Port. He was a trade union shop steward and then convenor at the plant and later became North West Regional Secretary for Unite the Union. In December 2019 he was elected as Birkenhead’s MP. Mick jumped at the chance to base his constituency office in the heart of Birkenhead at the Lauries Centre.
From his election Mick has worked tirelessly to bring investment into Birkenhead, to support the regeneration of the town, physically, commercially, socially and by supporting its people. Everything from the Maritime Knowledge Hub, Birkenhead Market, Wirral Met College, Wirral Borough Council, Futureyard and Cammell Laird, to name but a few examples, have benefited from Mick’s work to build a better Birkenhead.
And this local work has been matched by his unceasing backing for workers and the trade union movement, attending picket lines, demonstrations and meetings.
In Parliament Mick has stood out as the voice of Birkenhead in Westminster, as the terror of the Tory benches and as a loud and clear voice for socialism in the chamber.”
